Why It’s Okay to Take Time Off After Graduation

Post-graduation can be unsettling at times. You worry about finding jobs, fitting-in with the demands of society and competing with a sea of young and promising new graduates.

Many of my classmates, as well as college friends, already have their jobs. I can’t help but to be so proud of them. A lot of my acquaintances, with great expectations upon me, asked me why I’m still not working. I told them, it won’t hurt to take a rest for a while.

You know what, I don’t see any problem with that being said as someone unemployed. For a moment, it is okay to be unemployed and it is okay to take time off after graduation. It is okay to be a “tambay sa balay”, you have nothing to worry about being at home under the welfare of your parents. Just make sure to spend your little staycation productively!

Do something which will make you grow as a better person. Do something which will influence you as a better employee for your future career. Do something out of your limits! You won’t grow by putting up the shutters within your relief zone. Explore! Soar, glide and flutter like a butterfly growing out in the open.

Do what you miss in your college years. Do what makes you happy and excited: Write. Read. Travel. Volunteer.Watch a movie. Start a hobby. Help a friend. Visit that newly-opened bistro in your locale. Do something out of the ordinary: commit mistakes (lots of it), learn from these and better yourself in making decisions. See, there is so much in this world to do! Unlearn. Learn. Relearn. Come on child, the world is waiting for you to discover something beyond its core!

Believe me, when you sit down in your interview, your employer will ask you about your gap year, and his eyes will gleam with every unconventional experience which created a better version of yourself.

So fret not and reinvent yourself now!
